The Guardian reported on 17 October that concerns are increasing within the British government about the safety of AI systems and society's readiness to manage them.
Questions include the possible use of AI agents in cyberattacks and how dangerous applications can be prevented without stopping beneficial research and innovation.
Some policymakers also fear Britain may lag behind in adopting AI. The technology could make public services, healthcare administration and research more efficient, but deployment needs reliable oversight.
Experts disagree over whether attention should focus on distant hypothetical threats or already observed problems such as cybersecurity and user protection. Predictions about the future should not be confused with confirmed incidents.
